a perfectly messy bun. I've always thought this to be lazy hair but apparently the messy bun is a thing. One of my September issues said so [vogue? elle?] so it makes it true don't you know.

I think it would be great if it weren't 90 degrees in LA at the moment. I'm keeping it filed away in my brain for fall.

HarLex personalized clutch

remember my impulse purchase? It came in and I'm so thrilled with it. So I had thought the three little front flaps were for decoration, they actually reveal three separate little compartment areas.

I had mine personalized. Do you know how awful it was as a kid to never have your name on those silly pencils and such? So this complimentary feature made my day. The leather is so beautiful. I know it will patina and get dirty over time but I'm just in love with the nude leather, it's so elegant.

The last compartment in the back holds my moleskine - extra bonus feature.

now I'm on the hunt for a flat wallet or something similar to hold my wallet stuff. If I could change one thing on this lovely bag... would be a wristlet holder just when you need an extra hand carrying stuff, it's a nice feature to have.

music

I haven't gone to see much music in the last few years. I use to be a sort of rabid small venue person seeing shows every month or so. But I had that whole starting a business thing so money wasn't as easily spent unless it was really, really good.

Two artists performing this summer Dead Can Dance and Jack White that I've seen before and really enjoyed previously, so we splurged. Oddly, they were within days of one another. So Jack on Saturday night at LA's Shrine Auditorium. and last night DCD.



Jack was powerful on stage [despite our nosebleed seats] but the sound was horrid. I'm officially a sound snob now. I still adore his holy creepiness. Oh Jack, the hair.



Dead Can Dance, first album in 15 years I think? Lisa Gerrard's voice is the only singer ever to bring me to tears. I've never had any other music do that for me. The sound was prestine at that show as it always is.

The bonus with DCD shows is the crowd. Every goth came crawling out from under their rocks. They had been planning their outfits for weeks and it was awesome.

now...to Rachel Yamagata for November or not?..that is the question

PS the DCD video is old, but their new stuff is too dark to introduce a new listener to here. Plus? this has pretty visuals anyway.

It's Shark Week

I have a dear friend who lives 30 min [ok 45 with traffic] I haven't seen him in a YEAR. I can't make it happen - HOW IS THIS OK? I have a neighbor seriously 4 houses away that I haven't seen in months though we have touched base via email recently. That whole busy thing is annoying me right now. I want to enjoy my life and it's just all.work.all.the.time. I'm cranky without enough work and cranky with too much. go figure.

But here's the thing. Here is the sort of promise I've made to myself recently. I'm finding comfort in grace in whatever minutes I can find in the day. In the morning I go and get a coffee and on a really fabulous day I sit down at the shop and read my emails there, possibly with a little breakfast if it's just a.down.right.party. I'm taking my bike out for 15 min rides because that's all I've got. I'm stopping at Marshalls [it's a guilty pleasure] on my way home from work on a TUESDAY because I feel like it [bought a great bag tonight].

I've got to find my life again in all this busy.

back to basics

I'm working on a new set of invites. Wait till you see these gems. Asian inspired invite with teal and red - they're kind of amazing if I do say so myself. I took this photo on Saturday as I was finishing up the envelope liners. Martha Schmartha A glue stick, an exacto blade, a bone scorer and an eraser is all I need.

outtakes from a shoot

I realized I never shared some photos from a production I was on in May. We had an interesting time I think I mentioned, a dirt storm the first day, 5 or 6 kids on the shoot, adults to follow, dirt, an rv with a full outhouse but broken lights not alerting us to it till nearly too late, and a lovely sand storm the last day. Have you ever been in a sand storm? holy toledo. I'm glad I had enough goggles for the whole crew.

alabama hills - did you know all the old westerns were shot there? John Wayne has a hotel room named after him there. He stayed in the same place each time he was in town.

Bride's Magazine

Life has been so insane around here I forgot to mention this little gem. I didn't believe it would actually happen till I got a copy in my hot, little hands.

A wedding I worked on last year Sean and Merritt was featured in Bride's Magazine this month. Featured along side some seriously amazeballs wedding peeps Bellwether Events, Katie Stoops Photography, Design Cuisine to name a few.

Someone asked me recently about favorite projects and this was one of two. I'll never work with a couple as cool and original as they were. It was a treat to work on it start to end with them.

there is something dangerous about Etsy that feels like it doesn't count. My AMEX will say differently. Don't shop while you're tired or hungry is a rule right? I forgot what can I say.

this song is everything good and bad about jr. high for me. Mean girls would snarkily say it to me in the hallways [what can I say I was a good kid] and then Adam Ant who was a huge crush for me.



I found myself saying recently I don't drink much and I don't smoke and this song stuck in my head. Go Figure.
