Moon in June Press

In printing, I have the great honor of having worked with some super stars over the years, one of which is Jamie from Moon in June Press. I don't say this lightly but she is a DAMN FINE PRINTER - and routinely kicks my printing butt on a regular basis for sure.

Each year she and her cohorts produce the craziest / coolest calendars on the planet. An art piece for certain. I still have last years Mayan Calendar up. This year, for their fruit calendar, I think my favorite is the gold ink on black paper. Super Chic

about their project:

Every year, we try to create something really special for our annual letterpress calendar. Everything from abstract tessellations to minimal dots to apocalyptic mandalas, our calendar gives us the chance to go wild and celebrate the upcoming year with color and optimism. And this year’s calendar is no exception!

For our 2014 Fruit Calendar, we’ve created a piece that not only vividly celebrates the many delicious fruits that are available to eat year round, but it also acts as a functional reference for which fruits
are in season. Each month, a different cornucopia of fruits gather together, indicating when is a good time of the year to enjoy those particular fruits. In between the fruits are leaf-like negative spaces, which we’ve turned into days of the week. The result is a beautiful patterned trellis effect that will look great hung up on your wall throughout the year, and beyond!

Instead of a traditional calendar that acts as a form for filling in your schedule, our calendar is a handcrafted art piece on rich paper that is designed to be cherished, much like a fine art lithograph. We
hand print these calendars using a Vandercook 219 Letterpress printer, and each piece is carefully printed, taking special care with quality and texture to give an impression you can both see and feel!

available in their Etsy store for a super steal of $25 for one color and $30 for the split fountain piece

fashion: Co

very rarely do I see a line and say I could wear everything. Co is one of those labels

I might also advise watching at least She Said, She Said one of their short films they produce in conjunction with a collection. Kinda NSFW but oh la la.

trying out a little video

testing out posting a little video today. follow me on Instagram for more regular video and
fun stuff

I was on press today with a split fountain job for my client Ashkahn. A split fountain is when you use two inks and let them blend on press to create a gradation of color.

Split fountain, when doing it for production purposes, takes a lot of patience and clean ups in the middle of the run. It's a labor intensive process. The result though, is a nice little piece of art. Each one of his cards is slightly different because the ink is never stable.

you can purchase here.

All a girl needs

I saw this on pinterest some time ago and wanted it so bad but could not trace it through the link. Thankfully, I just saw a clip from NYFW and Betsy Johnson wore it on the runway bow. Nice, soft tee by the way.

Have I told you how bad I want to letterpress this on a card? I'm so sad I didn't think of it.

Le Chop

This is what it feels like to chop all of your hair off. It's seriously fun.

I can relate fully to the agonizing decision to do it which you should read here. It took me a few weeks to fully love it. In the second month I remembered a product from the 80's that has saved my life. Sebastian Molding Mud. If you've used it, I know you can smell it just thinking about it. And so here is my special mixture to taming the cotton frizz ball into something chic and fun:

1. Aveda humectant - they tell you just to use a little bit - I dig in with a blob.

2. Sebastian Molding Mud - same, a giant wad (make sure to press out all the little clumps in your hands so you don't end up with hair boogers)

3. After all that's in and I diffuse in various ways I dig into my husband's super pomade Layrite. He has to purchase it for me because it's in one of those "gentlemen only barber shops" I can't decide if that's totally cool or they're complete assholes but I like their stuff.

add a few bobbypins and hope for the best!

Garance, if you don't know her, is the bomb go check her out.

A good portrait

There is something so timeless, romantic, hopeful about a good portrait - to capture a moment in someone's life. Have you ever thought about that? That it lives that moment forever? It's silly, but I think it's amazing.

Michelle Williams is my only color photo here but I love this one. My husband told me I look like her with dark hair. I think it might be the nose - we've got that little turned up thing in common... I'll take it though she's a cutie.

shhh, this is actual a dual purchase. One for me and one for a close girlfriend's upcoming birthday.
one for me and one for you.

Picasso Baby

I've watched this a few times and it chokes me up each time. It's probably just me but it's something about the art becoming music, the music becoming art and the exchange of energy in this very unique video by Jay Z and friends.

happy Saturday.

Monday

It's Monday and I've got 2 giant orders and my first gay wedding invite to do.
and I'm here instead. Funny how that works.

In addition to that, I also have a full time contract job I'm at this summer. I'm not going to lie, it's a lot. and I feel overwhelmed. I keep getting up and doing it, and it all works out. That's the thing, right? It always works out? I.don't.know.how.

I can't wait to share with you about one of the orders but I don't dare until it's super real. I'm excited though. Dipping my big toe into the big.dog.pond. Stay tuned for more.
