Buitful

I've felt a little haphazard lately how about you? crazy things swirling around me has made me a little off my game. Somehow I manage to waste all the good weekend hours doing nothing that I should be doing. This weekend I:

• pretended I was fancy on someone else's boat this weekend in Newport Beach
• watched Buitful with Javier Bardem on Friday night - desperately sad movie I can't recommend it unless you just like to look at him [which I do]
• missed a crazy important phone call Sunday morning - my press mechanic that was suppose to be coming by and did but I was asleep [apparently he emailed me Saturday night and I didn't check my phone]. It was my first sleep in, in months of course.
• worked all day Sunday on invites for one of mine and chris' events
• didn't do a single chore
• ate pizza for dinner
• had a couple of cocktails
• did not shower

hope your week is Buitful darlings

new in the studio: baby love

it's such an honor to be part of a new family.

It made it even more lovely when I realized mom loves paper as much as I do.

wedding central around here both personally and work-wise. also babies have I mentioned? not me {yes, I heard you gasp} but announcements. It's been a busy couple of weeks.

chris and I reluctantly went and registered for stuff this weekend so that we wouldn't get bars of soap on a rope. Macy's was pretty easy and then we unfortunately went to Crate and Barrel. Sweet woman helped us really. I swear. But SO over the top like double SUGARY ICING sweet that I thought we might both have a melt down. I think that much cheer should be reserved for someone in their 20's getting married for the first time - not cranky 40-somethings.

I kept squeezing Chris' arm saying 'I know'. poor guy he was SO maxed out and well, I was too by the time she got done with her schpeel. I gunned 4 items and had to leave the place. thank gawd for online registering now.

When we got home he said "do I have to be nice to anyone else today?" in a please-don't-make-me-voice after a lovely neighbor stopped us to chat. No sweetie, you don't have to do anything else at ALL and with that I fixed us both a drink. I'm telling you...this wedding thing? is not for the faint at heart.

salted caramels

I'm obsessed with salted caramel anything right now. May I suggest a few of my favs?

salted caramel pudding at the A Restaurant is to die for via pastry chef Shelly Register. Second favorite a similar dessert at Mozza restaurant in LA - I do love their little cookie that comes with!

so I was very excited to read about LeBon Garcon in Pasadena that has a whole line of various caramels including my belove salted. Sign me up for a bucket!

lastly, I found this brownie recipe that sounds amazing as well

New in the shop this week

A couple of new cuties in my store today.

I figured out that I say this probably to 80% of my facebook friends on their digital birthdays. Sometimes the perfect card is right in front of me.

and speaking of facebook I was having an UGH sort of day and my friend responded with this hug comment. ditto. done.

I've told you before that my greeting card line is purely a selfish way to get notecards done for myself right? totally.
have a great weekend kiddies.

Merritt & Sean

Remember this couple? I brought in automotive illustrator Mark Sasway to replicate the cars that both bride and groom work on for their very unique save the date posters.

We've been working hard at their wedding suite all spring. It was such a treat to work with the automotive engineering couple who used automotive components throughout their suite and ceremony.

I used technical drawings they provided and did a modified blind emboss as a background texture. That graphic was then used throughout the package on the mailing labels, RSVP, escort cards and table names.

I also created an initial icon that we then used on custom stamps, back flap icons on envelopes as well as their thank you cards and water bottles for the reception.

lastly, we didn't want that fun poster to fall by the way-side so I altered it to turn it into a custom fan/program. Each guest got one during the ceremony [for the expected warm Virginia weather] front side was the modified poster graphic, back side was the wedding program and bridal party information.

** omgosh just got a sneak peek at the actual wedding which is here I'm in awe. the very talented Bellweather Events and Katie Stoops are to praise for such loveliness

impulse purchase

I had a moment a couple of weeks ago. I hardly ever make impulsive purchases I'm a careful/think about it for a couple of weeks or days [at a minimum] but with this...I had been driving past a vintage store in my neighborhood and it was in the window. I walked in checked it out and took it to the register. A larger.than.should.be.price.tag was attached for such a vintage item but they're trendy right now – I get it.

I talked the girl down $20 it was a win-win.

BAM. now it's mine.

I got a new ribbon for it - in the mail no less, because there are only like .5 people on the earth who sell these anymore. Today the old girl is up and working. a few sticky keys but whateves I'm down with the funky.

I still don't have a plan for it, or a reason. But the last time I did this I bought a 1200lb letterpress and I started a business from that craziness. who knows what this goodie will lead me to!

so I just have to say it....Mr. Draper will see you now.

for your steamy hot day

it's been pretty toasty here in So. California lately. This song always says summer to me.
Bebel Gilberto - Samba da Bencao

I'm off to get some watermelon

Not what I thought

So the BHLDN gown was lovely - it really was but there was something that was amiss about it on me, like I was trying too hard to be glamourous. If I were Dita Von Teese it would have been perfect - she can pull off that forced dramatic thing of hers. Me? simple and simpler.

This is what I chose in the end. A lovely little frock by Jenny Yoo. Do you know Yoo? darling little store in LA. Brilliant customer service. If I were doing bridesmaids...it would have been more brilliant - those colors of hers!

plus? the long lets me wear a flat sandal for that pesky back of mine and no one has to be the wiser.

latest obsession

I've been carrying around this cutie little Kate Spade makeup bag since my birthday [gift] as my purse. 2 lipsticks a pen and a couple of biz cards is all I really need to run out the door. It's making me a little crazy for a good clutch.

latest obsession? Comme des Garcons wallet/makeup purse. BUT? which one? The orange is super chic [a la Hermes], The green is fresh and sharp, and the black? well you know me and black.

because I think you can tell a lot about a person by their wallet things.
