I don't know if you've noticed or not but I make greeting cards for myself. Not in the selfish – I'm not sharing sort of way – but I need a card, can't find anything I like so I make it. hence what we've got going here.
It seemed to me I needed a card that could fill in the blank for many different situations. As in, Wow that's really great that you got a promotion, graduated from college, got that thing you wanted, got your car washed, finally... sort of super note.
But I also had a need for a sarcastic card that could say something like this: "that's just super that your toddler flushed your grandmother's watch down the toilet to see it spin" [yes, I had a friend that happened to] or maybe..."that's just super about that whole colonoscopy thing you're having done soon". And don't forget the old, " Wow, That's Just Super that your rash cleared up". Or the everyday need of "That's just super that your boyfriend finally came out of the closet". See? there are so many applications for a card like this!
I think you need one right? Say yes and click here. Let's hope that you have more use from the first group than the second.
available in sunny yellow with grey ink or pool blue with grey ink [both available on cream or white stock]
that's just super available now $4.95

grinder
when I was little my mom had one of these meat grinders. I remember it being attached to the cutting board or something in the kitchen and watching mom shove in meat parts. yes, I just said that. MEAT PARTS. If I remember correctly it sort of coincided with deer season, the meat parts.
I've told you about deer season right? it's big in my family. Don't forget pheasant season, and duck season and any other hunt.your.own.meat.season should I be forgetting one. There are so many.
anyway I saw this today and thought about this scene in my kitchen as a kid. I remember eating venison. I think I liked it, I don't remember burying it in my potatoes so that's a good sign. Anyway, I was playing with my friend Nicole that afternoon and I asked her if she wanted to stay for dinner. "what are you having?" because you gotta scope out the dinner situation before you commit. "Venison" I said. I think it was a venison stroganoff. I can't recall if it came up before she said yes, or if she actually began eating but it finally came out that venison was the fancy name for bambi and exit.stage.left.
so much for that idea.
Chris is a fisher-person as you know, but he's also been an ongoing fan of the "channel of death" as he has nicknamed it. The Hunting Channel or something-dude like. A lot of camo, men sitting in tree stands talking in whispers and commercials for rifle parts. He told me a couple weekends ago after a couple of beers that once he finishes school he wants to learn to hunt. Yes, honey I know. Everyone in Sacramento is waiting for you.
and here I thought I had my hunting days were over. go figure. Just don't ask me to grind anything.

lemonade
Awesome.
I've mentioned this movie before but finally got to watch it for *free* over on Hulu.
My friend Jeanne is in it by the way. She was one of my first photography clients [ok. maybe there has been only 2] when I was still employed by the man and she was starting her gig.
Now I'm making lemonade too. I think. Errrr... somedays it feels more like, the master cleanse.

Sad.
Gap hasn't been my thing for sometime but right now they have some cute stuff going on in the window in my neighborhood. There is a really lovely bone colored leather jacket in the window, it looks like it's really nice leather on top of it all. And although I could not wear that color without looking like I was ready for a body bag, I went looking for it online this afternoon to show all of you. To say, if you're a dirty blonde please go and get this it will look fab on you.
You may or may not know but photos are suppose to make a product look better than it is in person, or at the very least as good as it looks in person. Patrick Robinson? I know you're working your tail off over there trying to save the denim folks but you guys need to hire a stylist aka JCrew style. At the very least, this jacket looks a tad too small on the model [see shoulder seams] but the art direction? Things are not well here, on many levels.
When I see an article of clothing, I should want to be the woman wearing it. And right now, I don't want to stand next to her.

hallelujah
So I couldn't watch the telethon on Friday. It would have been me crying for however many hours it went on. Instead I blocked it out with my DVD's of SATC. [I already donated]
But last night? we went to dinner with some friends. My buddy who is well versed on music said 'did you hear Justin Timberlake's version of Hallelujah?' He said I woke up after dozing off and thought "wait, Jeff Buckley is dead" who is that? Just another reason that I can publicly declare my love of JT after being a closet lover of his for so long. I bought JT's version on itunes as well.
But another important question...do you know about Jeff Buckley? he's amazing should you not know about him. His first CD Grace is one that should be in every music collection. Sadly, he died in a accidental drowning during the recording of his second album.
It's one of the best songs ever. Originally Leonard Cohen should you be interested

the innocence mission
I've been digging on the Elf'in magic sounds of The Innocence Mission lately. Plus her hair? I use to be a flip girl in college. I always felt cute with that "do"
wet
it's a little wet here in So Cal this week. really wet if you want to know. Tuesday, sheets of water poured from the sky for an hour + and in return a few blocks over, there were cars floating in the road. I'm not sure I've seen anything of the sort here before. What I should own right now is a pair of Wellies, but well... I'd rather have these if you must know.
on sale over at ShopBop a measly kidding dad $486 [size 41 please if you're ordering] I like em a little big for insoles and socks
toodles from the wettest place on earth [ok not, but I'll hollywoodize it for you today]

"Do you feel guilty?" he asked me as we were lying in bed on Sunday Morning, "Guilty for being happy?" he said. We had just had another, in seemingly a string of phone calls the past few months, of families on the brink of disintegration.
I answered with almost no hesitation to this question, in fact I was a little perturbed if you want to know. Guilty? No, I don't feel guilty for being happy, I worked really hard to get here. I did my time in non-happy. A lot of time if you want to know. In fact, so did you... why would you feel guilty?
I don't know, he said, it just seems like we're doing so great and everyone else isn't. I clarify for him – we're not doing that great. I mean, we're both broke as hell - but we're happy if that lessens the guilt at all.
it's not the money, it doesn't matter how much money you have, it's never enough [he says this a lot by the way and he's right] you.spend.as.much.as.you.have. he says, it always works out to be that way.
It's true about the money thing and our happiness thing. We're swimming in goodness, I think, he and I. He has just a few months left in his residency. Our life together will finally begin under one roof. We're both getting a little excited for the future. But he's right. I do feel something every once in a while, like it's too good to be true and there are moments I find myself asking when is it going to blow up? I think horrible things about him being taken away from me in a horrid car crash or me falling down a flight of stairs cracking my head open to be a vegetable for the rest of my days. Something gotta give right? People don't get to be this HAPPY.
I think we're wrong. maybe. tell me it's this good. pinky swear.
And if I had all sorts of money? Maybe one of these fun finds over on Etsy. I'm kinda intrigued with the wares over on Artlab

We have a Situation...
We have a situation, not a Jersey Shore Situation but a female-chin-hair-situation.
It seems I've run into a number of women in the past month that are unaware they have The Situation. It's fairly notable so I'm a little puzzled about it. I guess not all women are as hair phobic as I am. So I'm here to offer a Public Service Announcement to save you from yourself.
Girls...Please even if you're blonde get a magnifying mirror and stand in real sunlight and check out the your very own Situation. In fact, take a gander from the nose down if you might. You might be a little shocked, I realize this, but you'll be so much better off for it in the long run. Please report back. I'm talking to you makeup counter lady, I mean seriously? you work at a MAKEUP. COUNTER. AT. THE. MALL. it's called Tweezerman seriously.
This.is.all.
I thank you.

warning...
A thirteen year old boy has invaded my brain. I will probably begin doing underarm farts at any moment while simulataneously burping the Star Spangled Banner.
the teenage boy in me thinks this is hilarious as just a dumb expression and would make a fantastic greeting card. The adult in me says there is no market for something so, well, dumb and non applicable to day-to-day life.
I'm humoring the 13 year old with this post to see if it will go away.
excuse me while I go pop a zit.

New Valentine's in the Studio
I love the way you love me. I can't lie, I stole my boyfriend's line. He writes this in all my cards and it always makes my heart melt.
He's a good card guy, always thinks about it ahead instead of going to the grocery an hour before whatever holiday it happens to be and get this... he writes a heartfelt note. Stunning, I know. Yes, I will marry him for many reasons but this is an added bonus.
And in case you aren't to the "love" word yet with your person I have this one which I just reprinted yesterday for Valentine's day. It says everything and nothing in the world of Valentines... if you need it to be so.

soooper
Don't mind me I'm just testing something I've been wanting to learn in illustrator tonight and I did it...all by myself! a miracle I might add.
I want to do more hand drawn type and letterpress it. How fun would this be? I just wish it had the sound effect of my friend Pam saying it in her wacky high pitched voice.
It sounds more like "SOOOOPER!"

Philly Loves You
Quite possibly the most amazing public arts project I've ever seen. It's a rarity that individuals "get" good art and typography it's a whole other thing when a city gets it. I am in awe.
The City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program and Philadelphia native, New York-based artist Stephen Powers have collaborated to create Love Letter, a public art project consisting of a series of 50 rooftop murals from 45th to 63rd streets along the Market Street corridor.
The murals, which are best viewed from the Market-Frankford elevated transit line, collectively express a love letter from a guy to a girl, from an artist to his hometown, and from local residents to their West Philadelphia neighborhood.
Love Letter, which will be documented in two books, a film, and a gallery exhibition, speaks to all those who have loved and for those who long for a way to express that love to the world around them.
a million thank you's to pixels and arrowsfor turning me on to it. I have hope for my fair little city!

Fun
5 is one of my favorite numbers did you know? probably not. Also 8 and 18 and 23 because 23 is magical and it also adds up to 5. It's true about the magical part. Someone told me swear.
23 is the most random, common number in the universe. As in 23 pairs of chromosomes, as in the number 23 is included in more lottery ticket winners than any other number, as in it takes 23 seconds for blood to move through your body.
I can't find these statements aside from the chromosomes on the web so we'll have to rely my memory of said conversation. This is where I tell you that If I were you I wouldn't repeat this at a cocktail party because, well, I could have imagined it or my source could have been trying to impress me with false information. And I can just imagine you at a cocktail party and standing next to someone who's a MIT/Harvard scientist and feeling smartypants repeating this information and saying RICHIE. SAID. SO. and the Harvard>MIT grad scientist will tell you you're full of shit and make you look bad in front of your boss and you'll have to drink 5 shots of tequila to feel better, which you will for one hour but then? You'll puke in the taxi and ruin your dress and the next day you'll have a horrible hangover.
I don't want you to have a hangover on account of me or ruin the dress.
SO anyway... numbers, they're cool no? it's an art thing I think. It's like letters for me, the shapes, the negative space just sitting there waiting to make me happy. I mean come on...look at that little scoop at the bottom of the 5 almost a circle but not quite. HAPPY. Plus, it's just badass to be wearing part of a cue ball I think.
From the site's Notes:
This whimsical ring is made from a c. 1940's billiard ball! A local San Francisco designs these wonderful pieces. It's set sterling silver and the "sliced ball" measures 1-1/2" in diameter. The ring is a US size 9.5. It could be sized if desired$75

Modern 50
I saw some stuff from this company featured over at SF Girl By Bay today and liked the industrial feel to them so went over to check it out for myself. Despite the REALLY wonky web setup, their wares are to die for. Prices aren't too bad considering what you would pay for this stuff if you were to find it at Anthropologie. Nice photography too which always makes me happy.

this morning...
• I just heard that rufus wainwright is playing saturday night [literally] down the street from me.
• tickets are still available which never happens with him
• I am pretty damn broke at the moment
• I am rationalizing $80+ for 2 tickets
• I just emailed Chris to beg him to go see one of my "whiney pussies" as he calls my music.
• maybe he'll take me on a super date.
until his response...enjoy this one - it's one of my favs.

Something and Nothing
I wish I had funny tales to tell you like Karey does or awesome reports of bad tv like SGM who is brilliantly funny. I just don't have little people yelling holy feck in the grocery isle. Although I can report on my nephew [8] who said something to my brother like "thank you so much for reading me that it meant a lot to me" after my brother read him some of Where the Red Fern Grows. *gulp* I read it on Facebook don't cha know, because I'm that kind of aunt.
I can tell you the most boring of stories every. single. day. Like today, I got up went for a walk, listened to my ipod with this very odd but very cool person telling me life wisdom that I knew but never had heard it like that before. I'm a new-age spiritual freak if you didn't know by now. I like all those shows about mediums, esp, transcendental whatevers. I've listened to the recording 5 times because I'm that boring [hey, what can I say? I get a lot out of it]
then I went to the car dealership where my friend fell on Monday and broke her tailbone. She was convinced that something was wrong with the staircase and she asked me to take pictures. I took some with my phone but kids, there was nothing but city approved code. she was not happy.
then I worked all day on a new portfolio for a wedding location that I'm a vendor with. I wanted something new and sparkily for the year. What I wanted to be a 15min project is going to take me 4 days. I'm screwed as it's due on Saturday. and now, now I'm eating my lunch at 5pm because I crammed in protein bars the whole day because of lack of time.
the most exciting part of my day? waking up early this morning to a dream that I was kissing a guy friend of mine kind-of-by-accident. No, it doesn't mean anything. I've dreamt I've kissed girls before and movie stars and it's not making me a lesbian or getting me in People Magazine anytime soon.
so today? This is all I got for inspiration a sweet little song, from a sweet little movie if you've never seen it Garden State.
I hope you come back for more boring tomorrow.

New on Bravo this
oh this looks GOOOOOD
opposite of what we see Rachel Zoe do during fashion week we get to see the producers who make the shows happen. To be honest I've done photo production and just listening to this makes me start having anxiety.
Kelly Cutrone is the woman behind it all and her new show coincides with her new book coming out If you have to cry, go outside and other things your mother never told you She is the owner of the P.R. firm People's Revolution

Just Jack
I had a wonderful dinner with some friends last night unexpectedly. It's complicated to explain all that were present but I wish I could record the conversations of one of the guys at the table so you can be part of his hilariousness. Mostly it's as if I had dinner with Jack from Will and Grace, complete with hair flips, which come out after the first bottle of wine is finished [sometimes before when coaxed].
Thinking about him, I couldn't help but see if this clip was on You Tube this morning. He has a great love of Madonna and Cher so this clip in particular demonstrates how hilarious it was.
It's it such a treat when the unexpected reveals such a fun time especially on a Monday Night.

I'm hooked
I haven't been able to see Mad Men till the winter break when I decided to rent season one. All I can say is I'm hooked.
The odd part for me is about it is watching the office politics and it's inner workings. Less call girls and martini lunches [btw I've heard in the 80's that it just turned into large piles of drugs] but for the most part the sentiment and the structure are the same.
